Today I bring the intimate wedding ceremony in Gibraltar I shoot a few weeks ago for Kelsey & Andrew. This Canadian couple decided that for their big day they would hold a “destination wedding“, this is a wedding ceremony that is held in a foreign country, different from where the couple currently resides. It´s an exotic and different option and lot of couples fall in love with the idea.
Some of this engaged couples also choose to get married in Gibraltar for the facilities provided by this destination regarding the paperwork and the wedding ceremony preparation. Planning a wedding is always hard work so some help and facilities in this field are always welcome. It is also a great destination because everyone speaks English, and above all, for its proximity to Andalusia and the Costa del Sol, a fantastic place to spend a honeymoon.
Usually these ceremonies only have a few, selected guests. In this occasion, we were just 8 people: bride and groom, 5 more people between family members and friends and me. What I said, a truly intimate wedding!
The day we caught in Gibraltar was a little cloudy, but that didn’t matter! The groom was very handsome with an elegant suit adorned with a yellow rose in his lapel. The bride wore a wedding dress a bit different with only one sleeve and a bouquet of colorful flowers which gave the touch of color to the wedding dress. For her hair, Kelsey chose a very flattering romantic updo.
Once they were ready for their intimate wedding, we headed to The Dell, a beautiful spot that belongs to the Gibraltar Botanical Garden. It was a very nice civil wedding ceremony outdoors. The couple exchanged vows and rings with great excitement and after saying I do in the beautiful garden al fresco, the wedding witnesses signed, sealing their bond.
For the couple wedding pictures we went through all the exotic and different spaces and sceneries that Gibraltar offers. First we shoot some very romantic photos of the couple in the same Botanical Gardens Gibraltar, then we headed to the famous “Top Of The Rock”. To get to that spot, one of Gibraltar’s main attraction, we took the cable car that brought us to the highest point of the city, that is by the way filled with some very very mischievous locals, the apes! It´s a very curious place, where I always get very funny and accomplices pictures of the newlyweds.
From these wedding photographs, my favorite are the one withthe couple kissing on the cable car and the one with the ape not letting them go up the stairs, it was a fun photographic session that result on some funny and original photos.
There we enjoyed the magnificent views of the Costa Del Sol bay and then we headed to my favorite spot in this location: the Europa Point. that is the closest point between Europe and Africa, where on a clear day (and just when we arrived here the day decided to open up :)) you can see Africa and even the Rif Mountains.
There is also in Gibraltar, a beautiful lighthouse where I love to photograph couples walking together toward their new adventure. This lighthouse was built in 1841 and since then it has been one of the main lighthouse guiding boats across the Strait of Gibraltar, so imagine the things it has seen! And of course, the newlyweds were delighted with these couple photographs of them by the sea in such a special place.
As a wedding photographer in Malaga and Marbella, it was a pleasure to photograph this intimate wedding in Gibraltar. I wish nothing but the best to this couple!
