As a Wedding photographer in San Sebastian today I want to show you one of the most beautiful and original weddings I have ever photographed there. Although it is true that northern Spain is somewhat rainier than the rest of Spain, as you could see in the intimate wedding in San Sebastian that I photographed for April and Kyle, spring and summer are ideal dates for getting married in San Sebastian.
And this is what this couple decided to do! Alexis and Stephen are a New York couple who decided that their destination wedding would be fresh, different and on the beach. In this case they decided that they would plan only what was fair and necessary and that they would leave the rest to improvisation. The result was a super fun and original day and quite outstanding wedding photos.
The place chosen by this couple to stay during their destination wedding was the Hotel María Cristina in San Sebastián, a luxury hotel located in the heart of the city and just a few meters from the sea. Here the bride got ready for her big day with the help of her mother and her friends who were also her bridesmaids.
Alexis chose a laced white dress with a V-neck and Imagine Vince Camuto shoes. Her hair was tucked into an informal bun and the icing on the look was her lovely bridal bouquet made of white and pink flowers.
Once she was ready, the bride left the hotel accompanied by one of her bridesmaids and together they went to meet the best man who accompanied them to a nearby park where the groom was waiting for her bride to make a first look.
The first time bride and groom meet on their wedding day is one of the most exciting moments of the day. It is already a tradition in weddings to do what is called a “first look”. It consists on the following: just moments before the wedding ceremony takes place, the bride and groom meet in a private and intimate place to see each other before anyone else, this will be her last date as a boyfriend and girlfriend before tying the knot.
We did a first look with this american couple getting married in San Sebastian and it was certainly an exciting moment. After this we headed for a typical Basque tavern where they reunited the only with the closest guests: bride and groom met here with their bridesmaids and groomsmen to toast with champagne and txacoli (a typical white wine from the Basque Country) for the happy couple.
After that we walk along the promenade at La Concha beach, during one of the most beautiful and sunny days of the city that I remember, where we met with the rest of the guests of this intimate wedding and headed to the beach, as bride and groom were determined: they wanted a wedding on the beach, they wanted to say I do to each other feeling San Sebastian sand under their feet.
The result was a one of the most original and fun wedding ceremony I’ve seen that the bride and groom enjoyed so much, and so did the spontaneous guests who enjoyed this wedding on the beach in their bathing suits. It was a very original wedding officiated by a relative of the couple, who was responsible for the ceremony and the exchange of vows of this beautiful wedding at the beach in the north of Spain.
At the end of the ceremony we made some super original wedding photos of the newlyweds and the guests on the beach and then I escaped with the just married couple to shoot the newlywed photo session around the city. We did some very romantic and sunny wedding pictures on the beach first and then we walk around the port of San Sebastian to take photos taking advantage of the architecture of the area, resulting in some beautiful nautical wedding photographs. The day ended with an intimate dinner for all the guests at the exclusive Hotel Maria Cristina.
Getting married on the beach in an original wedding ceremony is a unique and amazing experience. If you are thinking of celebrating a wedding destination in the Basque Country or a wedding on the beach in the north of Spain do not hesitate to contact me, I will be happy to accompany you and document your big day.
